Cullman Innovation Academy provides virtual learning options for eligible students in the Cullman City School District. As a public school within Cullman City Schools, CIA provides an alternative educational setting while maintaining the academic expectations, attendance requirements, and accountability standards of the district.
Cullman Innovation Academy may serve students who need access to courses because of scheduling conflicts or course availability, students working to recover or accelerate credit, and students whose individual circumstances make a virtual learning environment an appropriate educational option.

Cullman Innovation Academy offers blended and fully online learning opportunities for secondary students. Depending on the student's academic needs and circumstances, coursework may follow the traditional school calendar or an individualized learning plan may be developed.
Virtual learning provides increased flexibility, but it also requires students to demonstrate independence, responsibility, consistent participation, and satisfactory academic progress. Enrollment in a virtual program does not reduce academic expectations or course requirements.
Because virtual learning is not the best educational setting for every student, placement and course options are determined based on individual student needs, academic history, and program requirements. Cullman Innovation Academy works with students, families, and school personnel to determine an appropriate educational plan and provide the support necessary for students to successfully meet academic and graduation requirements.

Participation requires that students have reliable access to a computer and the internet. Students may also need to print materials for coursework. Students must maintain satisfactory progress for attendance purposes. Attendance WILL be taken. Failure to complete assignments per the satisfactory progress agreement could result in a student's withdrawal from CIA. While the Alabama State Department of Education requires that Cullman City Schools have a virtual option in place, there are no state requirements for admission to the virtual program. Placement will be determined by a student's individual situation, transcripts, and administrative recommendation. A team of educators review each application and collectively determine whether a student is a good candidate for virtual school.

Please be sure to communicate if you/your student will have needs for NCAA eligibility. Some offerings may not meet NCAA requirements, but we have other options to meet student needs.

Students should have a 2.5 GPA and the recommendation of an administrator to participate. Student attendance, past academic performance, and behavior will be considered when reviewing student applications. *

  • CIA does not and shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, age, national origin (ancestry), disability, marital status, sexual orientation, or military status, in any of its activities or operations.

CIA recognizes its responsibility to provide a free and appropriate public education to eligible students with disabilities within its geographical boundaries. The Cullman City School District has a "child find" process that is designed to locate, identify and evaluate children with disabilities residing within its geographical boundaries preschool through grade 12 or through age 21 if they have not received a high school diploma.
