A Few Details About STEM in CCS

The CTE STEM Exploration program is integrated into a broader Cullman City Schools STEM initiative that spans from Kindergarten through 12th grade. At Cullman Middle School, students can elect to take STEM Technologies I and II. Students in Mr. Haynes's class learn how to build and code robots for hands-on learning. They are exposed to one of the world’s premier programming languages using a hardware microcomputer. Students apply new coding skills and concepts to engaging projects with Vex Robots.

The Cullman Middle School Robotics Club further develops students' coding and engineering skills. The club seeks to cultivate an environment in which students will design, build and compete in VEX IQ Competitions. Students brainstorm solutions to problems throughout the season, document their engineering design process, design and build robots, and compete at two regional tournaments. Students learn to work as a team, develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills, and learn to communicate with teams from other schools. The CMS Robotics Club meets weekly.
