I have taught first grade at CCPS for 10 years. I grew up in Cullman, graduated from Cullman High School in 1993, and received a degree in history at Birmingham-Southern College and a masters' degree in historic preservation from the University of Georgia. After spending many years working in historic preservation and community nonprofits, I made a career change to elementary education after discovering my true love was teaching children. I attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham and received my masters' degree in early childhood and elementary education and have been teaching at CCPS ever since.
My husband, Markus Doering (pronounced "During"), is from northern Germany, and we were married on the beach in 2016. I love traveling, reading, biking, writing, and kayaking. My travels have enriched my life as I have learned so much about other cultures, experienced unique opportunities, while also getting out of my comfort zone. Some of my recent travels in the last few years include Croatia, Spain, Costa Rica, and Germany. In 2016 I spent several months living in Germany, attending a language school, and immersing myself in the culture. I love incorporating my international experiences into the classroom. I am so fortunate to have the opportunity to have a positive impact children everyday in the classroom, because of what I do.
