Peer Helpers

Cullman City Schools Mental Health Department is assisting in the launch of Peer Helpers throughout our district. This is a student led program in which students will offer assistance to peers on their campus. The students and staff featured in this photo recently walked in the CCPS Community Helpers parade.

Supporting the mental health and wellness of our students, families, and staff is a priority for Cullman City Schools. This page is designed to connect you with resources, tools, and support.

As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I bring with me experience in working with children, teens, and families to support mental and emotional wellness. I am passionate about helping students build resilience, develop strong coping skills, and feel empowered in both who they are and how they grow. I believe in supporting the whole child — mind, body, and heart.

I will be working across the district (K-12) and am always happy to connect. My aim is to introduce early mental health interventions + prevention efforts, collaborate with teachers, partner with families and be a bridge to connect all students with services.

If there’s ever anything I can do to support your student or your classroom, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Opt-In for Counseling & Mental Health Services

Under Alabama law, as of October 1, 2025, no student under the age of sixteen may participate in ongoing school counseling services including, but not limited to, mental health services, unless (1) the student’s parent or legal guardian has submitted a written opt-in granting permission for the student to participate or (2) there is an imminent threat to the health of the student or others.

Therefore, if your child is under sixteen, they will only be allowed to participate in the aforementioned services if you opt-in. If you would like the school system to be able to offer and/or provide services to your child, ages 16 or younger, you must opt-in for each individual service listed for them to participate in that service.

Even if you do not opt-in to mental health services, your child may be provided mental health services if there is an imminent threat to their health or others. School employees may determine in their discretion whether such an imminent threat exists and provide any mental health services they deem necessary under the circumstances.
