Alabama Literacy Act InformationIn an effort to improve reading outcomes for students across Alabama, the Alabama  Legislature passed the Alabama Literacy Act, which became law on June 10, 2019.

This  legislation extends comprehensive information and other guidance for educators to  focus concentrated and systematic efforts to improve the reading skills of all public  school students in early literacy so that every student is reading at or above grade-level by the end of third grade.

During the 2022-2023 academic year, Cullman City Schools will use grading parameters to assign grades in Reading, English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies for 6th grade students.

This system will help teachers communicate students’ grades to parents and increase parents’ awareness of how their child is being assessed. Students will be graded on specific categories in each subject area, with a minimum number of grade entries given in each subject. Each category is also given a specific weight. These weights have been assigned by a team of teachers and are based on the proportion of class time devoted to each category.

Please see the grading parameters table for this information.  If you have any additional questions about grading parameters, please contact your child’s teacher.
