The Cullman Bearcats Baseball team continued their legacy of competing for state championships by advancing to the State Finals for the ninth time in fourteen years with a two game sweep of Pinson Valley at Bill Shelton Field Friday night. Cullman’s move to the 6A classification did not slow the baseball juggernaut as the number one ranked swept Pinson Valley 10-1 and 7-2.
The Cats will play Pelham for the Alabama High Athletic Association’s 6A Championship starting with a 4:00 p.m. game at Paterson Field in Montgomery on Friday, May 15.
The second game and, if necessary third game, is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. at Riverwalk on Saturday, May 16. Admission tickets will be $10 for the day.
Coach Stephanie Barlow’s Lady Bearcats, with only one senior on the squad, did not let youth get in the way as they overpowered three opponents to claim a coveted spot in the AHSAA 6A Tournament May 15-16 in Montgomery.
The 8th ranked Bearcats will take on the South regional champion, #6 ranked Saraland, Friday, May 15 at Montgomery’s Lagoon Park with the first pitched scheduled for noon. The second game of the eight team
double elimination tournament will be Friday at 7:00 p.m., with additional games scheduled for Saturday starting at 9:00 a.m.
