The number one ranked Bearcats advanced to the final four in the 6A Alabama High School Athletic Association’s State Baseball Tournament with two victories over eighth ranked Southside Friday with scores of 7-3 and 11-1.
On the road, Jesse Scott and Carter Bowen pitched the first game as the Bearcats used seven runs on seven hits to beat Alabama signee Brock Love. Orvis Cuello had two hits including a triple, Kolby Robinson and Drake Hollingsworth each had 2 hits and Noah Fondren added another. Kolby, Orvis, Drake, Noah, and Maison Goodwin each had 1 RBI in the win.
In game two, Jacob Heatherly went the distance on the mound, striking out 12 Southside hitters. The Cats had a balanced offensive attack led by seniors Maison Goodwin
and Sam Huser. Sam was three for three with a double and RBI and Maison went three for four at the plate with 3 RBI's, including a bases loaded walk off double to the fence in right field that ended the game early with a ten run lead.
The team will host Pinson Valley this Friday at 5:00 and 7:30. The winner of this Final Four series moves on to Montgomery next weekend to face the winner of Spanish Fort and Pelham for the AHSAA State 6A Championship.
