The Softball Team won the first annual Paw and Claw Classic in Jasper, AL. After falling to Spain Park 3-2 in the first game, the Lady Cats won five games in a row to claim the tournament championship.
The five game winning streak included victories over Pinson Valley, Briarwood Christian (16-0), Winfield (12-1), Oak Mountain (10-1), and Tuscaloosa County (13-1) in the championship game.
Saturday the Cats outscored their opponents 51-3. Hannah Morton was 8 for 11 with four doubles and 10 RBIs. Sierra Easterwood also had 10 RBIs, a triple and double and was 7-for-13.
Claire Jenkins crushed her seventh home run and finished 8 for 14 with a pair of doubles. Taiya Ponder was 9 for 12 with an RBI. Other big hitters for the Black and Gold were Tiffani Schwaiger with five hits, a double and eight RBIs; Kylie Witcher, five hits and six RBIs; Olivia Schwaiger, five hits, four doubles and four RBIs; McKensi Burks, four hits and four RBIs; and Elli Dixon, four hits and three RBIs.
Defensively, Elli spent all but two innings behind the plate, while Kaitlyn Brannon caught the other two and helped lead the solid defense at 2nd base. Taiya Ponder fell over the fence making a catch in center field in the final game. Olivia Schwaiger dominated on the mound striking out 17 and going 18 of the squad's 20 innings without issuing a walk.
