The third ranked Cullman Bearcats made school history before a sold-out crowd of 5,000 spectators at the AHSAA Northwest Regional Basketball Tournament Friday February 13. The Cats fought their way back from a 20-28 half-time deficit to eliminate the Athens Golden Eagles, in over time, 71-68.
Lawson Schaffer and Chase Slocomb led the comeback by with a perfect 21 of 21 from the free throw line for the game. Schaffer’s 17 makes on 17 free throw attempts, allowed him to go off for 34 points to lead all scorers. Seth Swalve also provided much needed fire power from the floor with 14 points. Brontae Harris added nine points and Jason McAfee tossed in to two consecutive threes to help pull the Bearcats ahead of Athens.

The win allowed Cullman to advance to the Regional Championship game against the #1 ranked Lee-Huntsville Generals on Tuesday, February 17. In the championship game the Lee Generals used their superior size to dominate the boards and lane on their way to a 92-69 victory.
In the Championship game Lawson Schaffer scored 31 points, Brontae Harris followed with 16 points, Chase Slocumb had 8 points and Seth Swalve added 7 points. Lawson Schaffer and Brontae Harris were also named to the AHSAA Regional All-Tournament Team.
The 2014-15 edition of #Fast32 was the first CHS men’s team to advance to the AHSAA Elite Eight. The team finished the season with a 24-9 record and were ranked 3rd at the end of regular season play during Cullman first year in the 6A classification.
