I welcome you to the Cullman City Schools website. It's an honor to serve as Superintendent, and to have the privilege of working with dedicated teachers, administrators, support staff, and community leaders to provide a high-quality education to our students. Cullman City Schools has an established tradition of excellence. From our state rankings in academics, state champions in athletics, and successes in fine arts we are a part of a community that is committed to its youth. Our daily work is based on our shared value statement, “We, the educators of Cullman City Schools, are committed to using essential elements of effective instruction that we value in our classrooms as we “inspire students for lifelong success through character, citizenship, and scholarship.”
The accomplishments made by Cullman City Schools would not be possible alone. Our partnerships with businesses, city leaders, civic clubs, community members, parent organizations, booster clubs, and regional education institutions is the key to our success as a school system. Serving the educational needs of over 3000 students is certainly a joint effort. Cullman City Schools is a place where students are safe and feel secure to learn at each step along their educational path. We proudly serve students in 5 schools; Cullman City Primary School, East Elementary, West Elementary, Cullman Middle, and Cullman High.

Dr. Susan Patterson

Dr. Susan Patterson has spent 25 years in education as a classroom teacher, technology coordinator, library media specialist, school administrator, and district administrator (Federal Programs/Technology/Career Tech). She has 12 years in administration having been an elementary and middle school principal before becoming a district level administrator. Dr. Patterson is a graduate of the Alabama Superintendents Academy 2011, having successfully completed all certification and testing requirements.
Dr. Patterson earned her doctoral degree in Education Administration in 2004 from the University of Alabama. In addition, she also possesses an Educational Specialist degree in Librarianship. Her postgraduate work has included studies at Harvard University becoming a trained facilitator of Instructional Rounds: A Network Approach to Improving Teaching and Learning. She is also a Nationally Certified Principal Mentor through NAESP, served as the State Coordinator for the Doing What Works Initiative from the U.S. Dept of Education, and been an invited presenter to the Consortium for School Networking (CoSN) association speaking on closing the achievement gap through technology.
Within her professional roles she has served the state association of principals as the President of AAMSP and currently is a member of the CLAS Board of Directors.
